Please join KHA on Thursday, September 14 at 3:00 p.m. ET for a Special Town Hall on Planning for Implementation of the New ACIP Recommendations for Nirsevimab.

This meeting will feature KHA’s partners at the Kentucky Department for Public Health.  The key audience for this call is birthing hospital leadership and staff, nursery nursing leadership, pediatric providers and pharmacy leadership among others interested in this information.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) has long been recognized as a significant cause of severe respiratory disease in infants worldwide. Approximately two-thirds of infants will be infected with RSV in their first year of life, and while most infants only develop an upper respiratory tract infection, many infants go on to develop a lower respiratory tract infection. In fact, RSV is the leading cause of infant hospitalization each year. An estimated 75% of infants hospitalized with RSV have no underlying medical condition. Despite this and decades of research, no prevention strategy has been broadly available to all infants.

On August 3, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) ACIP voted in favor for the inclusion of Nirsevimab on the CDC’s Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedule and Vaccines for Children program. KDPH would like to have a discussion with this key audience to inform, discuss, and plan for this roll out.

This meeting serves as a listening session to help gain a better understanding of the plans that birthing hospitals have created to provide the vaccine and the resources in place or needed to accomplish that task.
